Achievement Unlocked: 3 Million Prius Models Sold

With how recognizable the name has become to not only all of us here at Bill Kidd's Toyota, not only to all the loyal drivers in the greater Baltimore area, not only to the forward-thinking auto enthusiasts in the United States, but across the entire world, it's no surprise at all that the automaker has announced recently that the Prius hybrid car has sold a massive three million units worldwide.

Since its introduction in 1997, the Prius has been making a huge impact on the automotive industry and has nearly single-handedly lead the hybrid revolution. Each version has been better than the last, but all helped to secure the three-million mark we're at today. In 2003, we here in the United States got our first taste of the Prius, in its second-generation form. In its eight-year lifespan, 1.2 million models found their way into the lives of newly-converted drivers. In 2009, we saw thei third-generation come in with two siblings: the Prius c and Prius v. Using the success of the previous iterations, these versions of the Prius flew off showroom floors for a total 1.7 million models sold, in half the time of the previous generation.

You'd think after so much success, Toyota would take a little break and stop being so amazing. You'd be wrong, though. With a 790 billion yen ($7.9 billion) investment, the automaker is looking further into technology for future powertrains, platforms and components, and the continued development of environmentally-friendly vehicles. Color us impressed.

So if you're ready to join the family, come on down to our dealership in Cockeysville, MD and take a look at a Prius or any of our other new Toyota vehicles. See something great, take it for a test run, and go home in your new automotive obsession today.
